Are you the kind of person who always chooses the free economy class shipping because you don't mind waiting?
Or do you always choose the fastest thing because you want it now? Maybe a bit of both depending on the item?
How about non-US anime orders, do you use something slow and cheap like SAL or prefer something more trackable and fast such as EMS, or hell, pay a premium and go UPS/FedEx?

Whenever I get something from Amazon, I get the free 2 day shipping because of Amazon Prime Student; anywhere else, I generally go with economy shipping unless it's near the end of the year-quarter.

I tend to go for free, because I have precious little money as it is, so I'd rather spend my money on stuff than on shipping. The UK postal services are pretty good so provided the seller dispatches quickly, you get most things within a week even with economy/free shipping. Sometimes if I order something from the US it can take so long to arrive that I forget about it and then get a nice surprise when it lands on the doormat!

It's a case by case decision. Most of the time it's free shipping because there's no need to have it ASAP, but towards the end of the year, like derlunger, I use Priority if it's not a lot extra since the mail system is extremely slow during the holidays. There are outliers, though. My orders of the Madoka Magica LEs are on 2nd day air because I love that show and I want them NOW! And whenever Funimation gets around to soliciting Panty and Stocking it'll get the 2nd day air treatment as well for the same reason.
As for merchandise, if it's a cheap figure like a prize figure or a nendo, I'll use SAL. However, if it's a nice, big, expensive figure I go for the EMS because I don't trust mail people, and the less time those figures are in their hands, the less likely something will break when they're tossing stuff around like basketballs or playing floor hockey with my package. I did use EMS recently for my Madoka prize figures, but that's because for some odd reason EMS was several yen cheaper than SA, so of course I went for that.

Free, or otherwise whatever's the cheapest because the less of my money I have to shell out for one thing, the more I can buy other things with. I also don't really care when it arrives, but basically any in-stock order I buy with the slowest/cheapest shipping gets here within a week anyway because Minnesota is the central section of the US and only one state away from the the primary store I order from most offen. The only reason I've had to wait longer is for imported items and I don't buy many of those. I don't think I've ever been given an option to choose a shipping method for an import so I don't really have a preference there.

For my DVDs and manga, I tend to go with the free shipping since I'm in no big rush to get them. In the case of my figures that I buy from Japan, I'll go with registered SAL so I can track its progress, or if that option isn't available then I go EMS. I used to use unregistered SAL, and while I've never had any items damaged, not knowing the status of my package for a month worries me. At least with registered SAL I can look and see that it's still moving its way towards me, hopefully not one kick at a time.

I always choose free shipping when possible when ordering domestically. On the other hand, when ordering figures from Japan I use EMS. I don't order them that often and when I do I am often pre-ordering months in advance so I don't want a long wait once the item is released.
Amazon was very fast with all my orders this holiday season even though I took free economy shipping on all. With Amazon and TRSI I find it's more a case of items being in or out of stock than the shipping method chosen that makes a difference in how long it takes to get stuff.

Thankfully for me, my usual retailer is in VA, so free shipping often turns into a 2nd day air turnaround. For my HLJ shipments, I tend to use FedEx, so I guess you can say I am pretty impatient, but things kind of pan out for me in the long run.

Such acceptance is standard for the most of us, not least because the recent lowering of the Customs limit renders many R1 sellers too unsafe to patronise without risking fines. Those who one knows to deliver safely are preferable to those who deliver promptly.

Usually go with the free shipping option whenever possible.
I don't really mind the slight wait, as long as it does not take a month like that annoying Deep Discount thing.
