Its not the end lol. Just the end of that arc. Were finally moving into the next arc after this game. Damn Xseed has alot of catching up to do.

I won't lie, this series is so great but man Xseed needs to catch up badly. I will give you my money to play 3 and 4. I really want to play them but it seems like it takes forever for them to translate the game.

*gasp* A fourth one in the series! At least 2 didn't end on quite as hard a cliffhanger as 1 did, so if we get 3 and 4 back to back like 1 and 2, I can probably wait a bit and still survive ok.

And if XSeed released the 1+2 PS4 upgrades in the US (with the additional voice acting from the PC version), I'd probably give in a double dip. Because Cold Steel! I'd probably still keep my Lionheart PS3 edition though, because collector's items, yummy!

So glad that co-worker mentioned Cold Steel as having a few Persona-like elements, it's funny because I had kind of gotten CS1 to hold me over until Persona 5, but then discovered an RPG series that stands toe to toe with it instead, so good times were had all around!

Quality takes time. I'd rather wait than have another Ys VIII on our hands.

Also, Sen 3 was released just 3 months ago. If negotiations went smoothly and XSEED even got the game, translation has probably barely started at this point.

So I've played Trails in the Sky 1 and 2 on PC and quite enjoyed it especially Estelle as a rare, fun female lead embodying most male-lead traits found in other JRPGs. So what does Cold Steel offer that's considered a step up from Sky because I am not feeling this having another male lead again in a school setting?

CS3 had just came out 3 months ago and if you look at both the Japanese and American releases of CS1 and 2 there was a 2 year gap between their respective releases. Anyway I do think they need to get the two crossbell games out maybe either before or within the same year as CS3 because you need knowledge of what happened in those games to understand what goes on in some events in CS3

(notice you didn't mention the 3rd, which I recommend playing before CS if only for some of the optional content setting up/hyping future games)

Its worldbuilding is on par if not better than Sky with a lot of really great story arcs if you keep up with the NPC dialogue. (my favorite is seeing a family tear itself apart at the children's expense)

The villains are overall better in terms of both both variety and motivation imo. FC and SC had a lot good antagonists, but CS1 and CS2 just bring a whole lot more. You get some of the more memorable good ones from previous games as well as a bunch of neat new ones to fill out the roster.

Combat's improved as the 3-D transition and new orbments streamline the system without eliminating all the customization elements. Animations are still pretty sluggish and disengaging but there's a skip button for everything now.

Otherwise, you'll have to accept (especially in CS1) that this is Falcom taking on high school anime. You'll check off all the tired tropes and the main cast is so big yet feels very constrained by their high school background, and what variety they do have feels very limited in development imo (compounded by an arbitrary limit on who you can learn about at any given time)

In short, if you really want to explore Zemuria more, play them. Otherwise, don't.

Yeah, I didn't mentioned the 3rd because I didn't play it yet. I heard it's a "gaiden game" mostly there to clean up any lingering character threads and be used as one last romp to use a lot of the characters in the gameplay. But thanks for the response!

It's part-epilogue for FC+SC, part-prologue for the entire Erebonia/Crossbell arcs, and part-tribute to the entire Sky series. It's just a good experience overall, especially if you feel the CS cast might put a bad taste in your mouth.

I'll say - this whole thing is starting to get a bit too dark and gloomy and generally emo for my liking. I'll play it - but, that's not what the Trails games are supposed to be about!
