I wish there were more aquatic creature love stories like The Shape of Water. No one has ever fallen in love with the Gill-man quite like that.

As for the poll, Josuke is definitely my favorite. The guy is just so likable and practical.

Merman in My Bathtub is one of the most charming short format anime ever. If you just watch the OP (which I adore), you think you're getting some sort of angst-filled BL drama or something, and then the series itself is a sweet and hilarious slice of strange life comedy. I just love it, can't recommend it enough.

Wow, all three of the titles I added to the poll made it to the final list. Must not have been a lot of votes overall. Smile

You totally forgot "My Bride Is a Mermaid", one of my favorite anime series! I've watched it three times. It's hilarious and silly, but also a sweet romance.

Exactly! I thought of it at once, too!

I was going to say the same thing but i think the main reason it wasn't cause My bride is a mermaid is the go to Anime anyone who wants to see a mermaid anime will probably know off or will go and watch so it was left out as it is already quite well known.

Nice to see that Astra Lost in Space made it to third place! It feels very underrated, so I never expected it to get so high.

Though I find it really strange that 20th Century Boys, Billy Bat, Ace of Diamond Act II, and Cross Account are on the list, because they're not Jump properties at all. They're not even published by the same company!

Junichi Sato's coming of age drama has origins in pachinko, if you can believe it,

And Sato returned to cute mer-folk in one of the more memorable episodes of Sgt. Frog, as Fuyuki helped defend the land-folk from misunderstanding...
One of Sato's, quote, "Boring serious" fantasy episodes that Funi's dubbers so disliked. Mad

Um, not only is Cross Account definitely a Jump property, it ran in Weekly Shonen Jump. Anime smile + sweatdrop

I can see getting it confused for Cross Game or Cross Manage (but that last 1 was also WSJ), though.

ahahahaha the mermaid prince in Yume100 showed up for two seconds and had one line, and that's what made me drop the anime, because I love his voice actor.

.... that's not true, I stayed for one episode of snow bros. But just one.

Mermaid Boys doesn't have an anime but it should.

The list was more of a "different types of merpeople" list than a "best of" list, so I'm fine with it skipping My Bride is a Mermaid (Seto no Hanayome) in favor of Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch for it's representation of a standard fish woman/ beauty on land mermaid. Goes for Umi Monogatari being represented as a story of 'normal people but underwater' over A Lull in the Sea, which I still find over-rated and uncommitted to depicting an underwater life that makes sense. (pet peeves- TV, newspapers, boiling soup on a stove... all underwater)
