I've got Rumbling Hearts waiting on my shelf I need to crack that open and see if your right about this series. As for Disagea I am sure there will be a very loud group of folks talking about how you don't understand the deeper meaning blah blah....but it's just not any good, sorry.

The first shelf-obsessed photo's filled me with shame. I was too embarrassed to send photo's. But these two made me feel like it was ok to contribute. Now I need something as cute as that dog to arrange my collection around.....

I'm impressed. My anime collection consits of vol 4 of FMA, the 1st Eueka 7 boxset, the digimon movie, and an InuYasha movie
 Manga is easier to collect, you get more story and it is way, way cheaper 
I wonder how they got their dog to stay sitting while they dumped their anime on him. My dog would shake them off

from what I viewed so far of shelf life, it doesn't matter what your shelf looks like, just that you're proud of your shelf! or.. proud of your pet that's your temporary dvd shelf O.o apparently.
I don't think Disgaea is supposed to have a direction. It seems to me like one of those anime that is comparable to Futurama, plot-wise (little to no plot, and it's just a bunch of high jinks). But even so, I agree that I was less than thrilled about it, even if I liked the games
I totally understand the date-stalking sort of feeling!! I get squirmish during any sort of love scene!!! I usually hide my face behind my hands or smuggle my face into my boyfriend's shoulder. It's horrible! Worse than scary movies. GAH... will I ever grow out of it.... |

Shows don't need ongoing plots or 'direction' to be entertaining, but Disgaea was just dull. |

These make me more willing to show off. Rumbling Hearts is a great series, although I still haven't gotten Volumes 2 and 3. Urgh, curse me for not paying off my last credit card bill sooner! Sad to see Disgaea in the perishable section. I kind of liked what I've seen of it so far. It's not great but I didn't think it was that bad. Of course, that may be due to an inability on my part to condemn anything with an assassin angel in it. |

just out of curiosity, how does the Disgaea anime compare to the videogame? Is the game worth checking out, or are both sub-par entries into their respective fields.
and probably a bad way to close a first post, but GO YANKEES! (I'm from montana and can cheer for whoever I want, so why not jump on the bandwagon?  )

The game is pretty good if you like TRPGs. And its actually funny. if you are looking for the next Final Fantasy Tactics, you'll be disappointed as the game is not plot driven and rarely takes itself remotely seriously. But if you just want a solid (not particularly deep or complicated) TRPG battle system with fun characters to go with it, you'll probably like it.

I'm an Ah My Goddess fan and I wouldn't recommend the second season too highly, even to some fans. I'm buying it because I did enjoy some of the moments and that makes it overall more or less worth it for me, but I have to admit that the story slows down even more than usual AMG fashion. And yes, the characters do seem awful dull here. Maybe it's best that they're not jumping right into a third season, hopefully if/when they come back it'll be fresh again.
Yay, for Rumbling Hearts 3 coming up shelfworthy! I have yet to watch the DVD, as it is still sitting on my own shelf patiently waiting its turn, but I remember that the last part of Rumbling Hearts is what solidified a place for this show as one of my favorites.
Bah! I'm in Texas and I'm a Yankee fan so I don't think it really matters where you're from. Sadly they're not doing too hot coming out of the gate, but it is a long long season so we'll see how it goes. |

The thing about Ayu and Mayu in Rumbling Hearts is their adaptation from the games. From a person who has played them, they understand the characters and sadly most watching KimiNozo will rarely get the chance to play the game unless someone localizes it.
Their characters actually hold a bit more weight than they appear in the series, so don't just dismiss them wholly on watching the series alone  Ayu is still one of more favorites of the series based upon this simple fact.
I'm at least happy that it's getting good reviews here Stateside, I was still worried that it would never get licensed and if it were to that it'd just fall into some wastebasket somewhere to rot. |

CHUU BOSU?!?! haha, ahh the game is great. There are also a bunch of other games made by Atlus with the same type of engine. But Disgaea seems to have the most fluid play IMO. |

Our collections made the rest of you want to contribute too!? That is so cute. e.e *proud* I was pretty blown away by some of the first collections too, but...all of the stuff I've bought is dear to my heart, so I feel no shame. =D
I'm Inari, btw. And yes, yes I do love Fancy LaLa. I also have it on tape from back when it was a fansub (from Tomodachi, I think?)! I almost hyperventilated when I saw it was out on DVD. 
I don't have any pets or they would be posing with my DVDs.  Sorry.

agreed. i think having a good plot would have at least given Disgaea some redeeming quality. i watched it because of the game but there was nothing really exciting about it. KGNE (Rumbling Hearts) was a real tear jerker and definitely different from anything i have ever seen. sure its melodramatic at times but i think that was what engrossed me to continue watching to see the outcome. I enjoy watching AMG but a lot of people i know dont. Its sort of love or hate. The plot moves very slowly and Keiichi indecisiveness, shyness, and lack of confident infuriates many including me. I wish he would grow a set, he has girls practically throwing themselves at him as well as people helping him build confident and self esteem yet he does nothing. i understand the naive and innocence approach to love and relationship as a selling pt but i dont want to have to watch 50 eps for keiichi to progress 5% in his love life. |

I agree completely. As much as I adore this series, even I agree Keiichi's indecisiveness can get a bit irritating. In the manga it's endearing, but for some reason in the anime it doesn't come off that way. Maybe it's because of that lack of Fujishima's personal touch. There are two things that make second season worth the watch though: Peorth and Hild. I kept turning in each week waiting for them to get more airtime. I feel inspired to send a pic of my shelf. The amount of crap I own is unholy..it almost needs its own room.
