I got to say, I didn't mind this stretch of episodes. Sure they are weak when compared to the show's highlights, but then anything would be hard-pressed to match the great heights the series frequently visits, so that's not saying much. Even these episodes are - in their own quiet way - as good as (if not better than) the best episodes of a lesser series. So it's all good.

What I can post without spoiling anything is that these episodes are not as filler-ish as the reviewer has written them to be. Each and every episode in the series has essential information very relevant to what will unfold later.

In fact, if “filler” content is defined as content which tells stories not drawn from the source material, then these three episodes are exactly that.

I don't think anyone seriously defines "filler" that way. "(Anime) original content" often equals "filler", but definitely not always.

And in this case I'd agree, that Moribito's anime original stories are far from simple fillers. Yes, they stretch the story, but in no way with useless information. Rather, all these things are mentioned in the novels, as the review states, but the anime adds a lot of detail. It might not be essential to actually see Nayugu all that much, but it definitely helps the viewer to understand how those two worlds are linked, which again helps with understanding what's happening in the main story. Not to mention that is was simply stunningly beautiful eye candy Anime hyper (fillers usually are low budget animation). Same for the festival, which is definitely directly linked to the story.

Really wish companies would do away with individual 3-5 episode individual volumes and go for the half or full season boxsets.

It's filler compared to the book - but the book (I read it recently) feels like a thumbnail outline of the series, which adds a lot of filler to flesh out the story.

That said, some of it in these episodes is pseudo-filler, in that while it doesn't further the main plot along heavily, it does give moments for character development and interaction that still add to the series and are worth watching. Don't skip episodes in this series!

Meanwhile, I am still frustrated with the snail's pace release of this series. I want to buy it once it's completed, and it's been taking forever. Sad

Completely disagree. I like having the option. If they got rid of it, I probably wouldn't buy any anime at all. I don't like making huge lump payments for something I'm not even sure I'll like.

Although no extras definitely does suck. I am surprised that he didn't say anything about the cases. I think, as far as cases go, that they are quite nifty in the pretty way they display the art.

Altorrin, you have a point there because to each their own. However, I am willing to pay huge payments of something I do like.

I love these three episodes, personally. I agree, there is a lot of character building in them, especially in Balsa and Chagum, and that's what really made me love these episodes more was that we got to see the two of them grow a little more. It's hard to pick a favorite out of the three because they are so great, in story, animation, and just overall awesomeness.

,
Character building/development is one of the reasons why so many anime are so popular. We get to see the characters grow and learn from faults and how to pave for their future.

The one strike often laid against Moribito is that it progresses rather slowly, and this volume does nothing to allay that concern.

I love the pacing of this series, and would not call it a concern. It's deliberate about everything it does, and together with the visuals and audio, the pace works very well to create a deeply engaging and believable world.

I've only seen the first two of these three episodes so far (I'm watching on Adult Swim), and I can see where someone could complain that they're "filler", but the character development, especially in Chagum, makes me think otherwise. I've heard that the anime deviates a lot from the novel, so comparing the two stories and saying the anime has "filler" doesn't really make sense, anyway.

I second what you're saying. I'm also watching the AS run, and these "fillers" are doing good character development. Last week was great development for Tanda, this week for Chagum. He was never exactly a spoiled prince, but Chagum has loosened up, and shown that he has strong convictions, and will stand up for things he believes in. It's not dramatic change, but it is obvious looking back, even after only a dozen episodes in. It even has developed Balsa a little(I'd love to have her as a parent/guardian).

And of course it goes without saying that Moribito is beautiful. Smile

Definately agree with that. Unfortunately a lot of the AS viewers dont think like that. As with vol 1 review, the main body prefer high octane action series like bleach and other series which is a shame cause it's a decent fantasy anime series i've seen since scrapped princcess (though the grandaddy of all fantasy anime series are still slayers and Record of Lodoss War and the El Hazard OVA) and everyone in all sides like the dub version which has become rare
recentlly.

Also it's a good thing that it's AS is showing the new episodes however they need new anime series to keep it from ending up like it's toonami block. What you think should be on AS for this season and in 2010???

On seeing the second run of tonight's Moribito on CNWest, I'm even more impressed with Balsa. She's such a great parent. She may not necessarily approve of Chagum's actions, but she does back him up in his choices. That's exactly how a parent should act, supporting their children even if they don't approve of their actions.

As for new AS anime, I've heard rumors of Soul Eater(supposedly Kim Manning mentioned it off-hand at a con a few months back), and I'm only assuming AS will get the dub of FMA: Brotherhood, due to how well AS and Funimation did on the first series(FMA was one of AS' first 500k+ rated anime that I'm aware of). I guess we'll find out once Moribito gets closer to ending its premiere run.
