The manga is a series of 18 short stories, each set slightly further in the future than the last, with humanity a little further removed from Earth and its conventions in each successive story. In other words, the individual shorts, when read sequentially, are just vehicles to explore the gradual future evolution of the human species. I'm not sure pulling out two of those shorts and treating them as entirely self-contained narratives was an entirely wise choice on the part of the film makers - it kind of defeats the purpose of the original work. Anyway, I wouldn't want anybody to be put off the excellent (if sadly long out of print) manga by what sounds like a pretty lacklustre and ill-advised adaptation. |

I found To interesting to watch, but I agree that some character movements are a work in progress. I enjoyed the two stories, simple as they were, and thought the visuals to be impressive. On the whole, though, I found more emotion was conveyed in Vexille.
