As somebody who runs an Amazon Marketplace store, those counterfeit sellers really get to me. They're a downright disgrace to the business.

I wonder when eBay will do the same... Ohhh bootleggers... In flea markets nearby, you can already get copies of The Dark Knight Rises, complete with special features even! Most likely cam rips, of course. Well, at least some are being taken care of on Amazon! I know it's not really worth it, but I always like something being done about them, especially when people think they are buying the real product. I was already burned on eBay a few times myself.

If you avoid certain Asian countries there, that's 90% out of the way.

Funny that Toei doesn't care if Sailor Moon gets bootlegged. Rolling Eyes

eBay isn't willing to kiss goodbye a significant portion of it's fee's that easily.

Maybe they are, however they are still offering a product that people want to buy regards to legality or not and we all know how entitled anime fans are. I am very tempered myself to buy boot-leg higurashi kai/rei dvd's but I don't want eye cancer from low-res encodes.

as a subber and marketplace seller they do offend me. first off most times those are actual fan subs that they put on dvd, and part of the reason for the eye cancer encodes is that they are re-encoding the fan subs which loses a lot of qaulity. that is why fan subs put on the buy the official or their names on the release to prevent that. the reasons are obvious for why that is offensive. or they have people who don't know English or japanese and either produce subs that have no details, inflection, or horrible grammar. or the other common thing is that the subs are just plain wrong, and can't even translate good morning ____ correctly. I have yet to see one originally translated bootleg that actually does not to be retranslated to become a passable subtitle. also it is offensive that they have illegal stock that they can make themselves for next to no cost, while I pay close to retail for my stock.

This is a sad reality... The worst part is that some bootlegged items can be dangerous. I've heard stories of bootlegged eBay plush containing dirty (sewing) needles inside, or how some are stuffed with dirty bandages. The culprit I've heard from are those $5 fake Pokemon plush. Also, I heard how some sellers will say they are shipping from America, but if you click on their username, they are actually from China. Sneaky!

Well, eBay has angered sellers as well with double-dipping fees (eBay and Paypal), fee increases, and putting more "trust" in the buyer than the seller, so I dunno how that means they get more profit.

Still, given that most, if not all categories have some form of of a Asian-based seller spamming the listings with junk, it's a lucrative revenue source for eBay.

Thursday I contacted amazon about some clearly labeled sailor moon S and SuperS sets in their marketplace that were bootlegs that were listed under the original R1 releases. The person I contacted didn't even know if Amazon was AGAINST bootleg sellers or not, he had to go ask. He supposedly came back and said yeah bootlegs on the marketplace were against Amazon ToS and I gave him the sellers shop name AND link.

After that I figured it would be dealt with but come to my surprise yesterday when I decided to just check that they were both still there. Left feedback on the contact about the fact that NOTHING had been done about it when I saw that.

Amazon doesn't care, much like ebay. They get a percentage off of what's listed, bootleg or not.

Yeah hopefully this WB thing scares them enough to take notifications about this stuff seriously. I know those are bootlegs because NONE of the R1 releases were 3-4 disk sets (which is what the listing clearly states). Not only that but he's trying to charge legal R1 prices with these sets.

Bootlegs are bootlegs yes but it's a lot easier on someone if they're scammed out of 30 instead of 250+.

There are many people on Amazon who are selling their old, legitimate products, but unfortunately, there are others who sell bootlegs (knowingly or not). However, this is marketplace, which means the company, Amazon themselves aren't selling the bootlegs.

But at one point, they did sell that Sailor Moon bootleg (as in, not on the marketplace and sold directly from Amazon) which was really un-proffesional of them.

And they can't not know that this goes on. I think they have partial responsibility, as the third party moderating transactions.

no they have to have some idea because those bootlegs many times have their own product pages which need to be approved by amazon. and only premium level sellers are allowed to create listings, and they enter into a special relationship with amazon in terms of contracts and terms of sale.
