Didn't you play as Big Boss in MGS3 and Hayter voiced him then?
If so, why are they dropping one of the most iconic voices in gaming?
Unless there is some stupid story plot that Big Boss can no longer speak or something, then I just don't understand what Kojima is thinking.

Might have to do with how old Big Boss is at this point. Think back to MGS4.

It could be related with his performance in Peace Walker. Hayter sounded way too forced in that game.

Guys, this is the man who created a fake game studio and debuted a fake trailer for MGSV. The man who released a nine-minute trailer of MGS2 featuring Snake, only to reveal Raiden was the real protagonist. This is Hideo Kojima, master troll, we're talking about here. Hayter is never the type to complain openly on the internet.

I think we should suspect we're being had. It is a distinct possibility that Kojima and Hayter (longtime personal friends, from my understanding) are having a great laugh together about this whole thing. As a longtime MG fan, I've learned to trust nothing until the final product is released.

For the Metal Gear Solid fans, I also have a theory that assumes this news is indeed factual.

spoiler[Because Peace Walker follows Big Boss into his creation of Outer Heaven, and this game seems to take place a decade or so after that, it's safe to assume that we're approaching the events of the first Metal Gear game, i.e. the one where Big Boss is the villain, and Solid Snake gets introduced. So, if this voice thing is indeed true, Hayter probably will not voice Big Boss, and Solid Snake will appear near the end of the game to lead into the events of Metal Gear. From there, Kojima may decide to remake Metal Gear, MG2, and Metal Gear Solid, the latter of which he's expressed desire to see an HD remake of before.]

Anyway, those are just my thoughts on the whole thing. Figured I should hide them in spoiler text, just in case.

[EDIT: No need to double-post. Just use the Edit button, next time. -TK]

Hayter voicing teenage Solid Snake would be too hilarious considering the voice is more suited to an adult.

I'm going to guess that maybe Konami was able to get Kiefer Sutherland and he will play as Snake since some has said they heard his voice in the trailer. Then again, it could be another troll attempt by Kojima in some way or another.

I believe snake will be 11 or something in the game, I don't think Haytar can voice that convincingly

I have this Hitman Absolution vibe coming. Also. David Hayter has a real voice. If anyone seen Gundam war in the pocket, or Lupin III The Castle of Cagliostro. So I bet he could pull off a teen Snake.

Hayter already said back in 2011 that he had troubles making the Snake voice.

Good riddance.

THAT game? He's been hokey and forced for the entire series imo. There's a reason why almost all of his VA work is Metal Gear and no other companies want him doing vocal work.

Solid Snake's voice is one of the most famous and iconic voices in video games. It would be stupid to just replace him. I think there's something else going on.

I should point out that Peter Lurie (sp?) voiced him in an Ape Escape game a couple years ago.

Good, Hayter is a shitty voice actor. Akio is Snake/big boss just like Mifune always was the original No Name Character.

Akio Otsuka has a badass voice and it's natural, on top of that he has range and acting chops, something that Hayter always lacked.

PD: Iconic my ass, a shitty actor is a shitty actor no matter what.
