It's possible they're trying to avoid the "African American as black ranger, Asian American as yellow ranger" thing this go round, though honestly with all of the new characterizations in that casting call I'm not sure this has enough ties to the originals that they should have kept the names at all.

They can't seem to make up their mind on if this is a remake/reboot or a spinoff (there've been rumors the movie will be set up in some way in Dino Supercharge next year). My best guess is the names are placeholders for now. If it's truly set in the same continuity as the show, it'd pretty much have to have new character names. Otherwise it'd be kinda weird.

Last I read it's an alternate reality, like the new Star Trek. Something happening at the end of Dino Supercharge is supposed to cause a dimensional break of some sort. (That's how it was described, sounds dumb.) But really, who know how they're going to do it.

Compared to the other casting announcements...this one seems strange to me. And, this only has to do with the age of the character. I'm meant to believe this guy is 17?

I can see the outrage when it turns out there will be no ethnically black person in the cast. I'm a bit surprised about this actually but I guess everything has to be PC these days.
