Trivia:

This was the first Japanese theatrical movie to be presented in Dolby Stereo. Incidentally, it was generally considered to be the first stop-motion animated feature to be presented in Dolby Stereo as well.

Nutcracker Fantasy has also often been mistaken to be a Rankin-Bass Production due to the stop-motion animation work being a lot similar if not alike. Nutrcracker Fantasy's director, Takeo Nakamura also was an animator for Rankin-Bass's Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town. Because of Nutcracker Fantasy being animated by the same studio that worked on Rankin-Bass's stop-motion Christmas special like Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, this has led to debates about if any stop-motion animation done by that studio and Rankin-Bass should be re-classify as anime.
