Square Enix, Yahoo! Japan's Game Titled Monster x Dragon

Online monster fantasy game opens to all users this winter after beta testing

Square Enix and Yahoo! Japan unveiled details of their browser game collaboration on Wednesday. Monster x Dragon will be open to all users this winter, and basic gameplay will be free.

Users will play as mercenaries commanding a variety of monsters in the aerial continent of Dragonia. The "MMO active time strategy" fantasy will combine the styles of trading card and realtime strategy games. Players take part in a massive online war by guiding their monsters into battle, and communication and collaboration between players can create massive armies for greater success.

Until October 11, the game's official website is accepting applications for Monster x Dragon's closed beta testing period. Applicants must use a Yahoo! Japan ID to apply, and 10,000 total accepted names will be announced on October 12 and 21. The free beta test period will run from October 13 to October 28.

Since last year, Square Enix and Yahoo! Japan have already been collaborating on Sengoku IXA, a browser game themed on the war-torn sengoku era of Japanese history. The two companies report that the game has over 500,000 registered users.
