Kyoto manga/anime event holds contest to name original character

The Ah My Goddess manga creator Kousuke Fujishima illustrated a female mascot character for this fall's "Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2012" event.

The event's official website is currently hosting a contest to select a name for the mascot girl. People can use an online form to submit a name until June 29. A committee will select the character's name from the submissions, and the winner will receive a paper board signed by Fujishima.

The fair will have booths to introduce new works, and the Heian Jingu Shrine will host live events, voice actor and voice actress stage events, a CG anime contest, and will also sell merchandise. The event will focus on new works as well as discovering new talent. The event's goal is also boost collaboration between anime and manga companies from Tokyo and Kansai-area companies to create new works.

The event will be held in Kyoto's Miyako Messe event hall and Heian Jingu Shrine from September 21-23. The first day of the event, September 21, will be a business day, and then on September 22-23 the event will be open to the general public. Admission will be 1,000 yen (about US$12) for adults, 500 yen (about US$6) for middle and high school students, and free for elementary students and younger.
