Girls & Panzer's Massive School Ship Gets Plastic Model

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
New figure sets, scaled remote-controlled tanks also previewed at hobby show

The Girls und panzer projekt revealed a 1/40,000-scale plastic replica of the Girls und Panzer anime's Ōarai Prefectural Girls Academy school ship at the Shizuoka Hobby Show this week. The tentatively-titled "1/40,000 Ōarai Prefectural Girls Academy – Academy Ship" will be produced in collaboration with R.C.Berg Ltd. and PLATZ. The ship is scheduled to go on sale to the public this summer.

The Girls und Panzer Project also previewed three new 1/35 scale figure sets at the hobby show that will also debut this summer. The Anglerfish team set will include five figures: Miho, Saori, Hana, Yukari, and Mako. The Turtle team set will include figures of Anzu, Yuzu, and Momo, and the Pravda High School set will include figures of Katyusha and Nonna.

Japanese retailer Amiami also posted images from the hobby show of various scaled tank models, including a Type 10 tank and a Sherman Firefly. Additionally, the company Volks is producing a remote-controlled tank series that will include Miho's Panzer IV F2 (see below image) for 19,800 yen (US$194).

The anime franchise began with a television series that premiered last October. The story follows Miho, a girl who just transfered into the Ōrai Girls' Academy in Ibaraki Prefecture. She finds herself alone at first, but then joins the "senshadō" (tank combat) course — in this school, the girls drive real-life tanks the way girls in other schools take archery or kendō sword fighting. Miho's Ankō (Anglerfish) Team competes with the other teams.

Crunchyroll and Anime Network both streamed the anime outside Japan, and Sentai Filmworks will release the series in North America on home video.
