Animonozukuri Awards Will Return for 2nd Year

The Animonozukuri Awards, a newly minted event that honors strategically crafted business partnerships between otaku culture and merchandising, will return for a second year in May 2018.

Last year's awards saw over 120 entries across multiple categories including animated commercials, campaigns featuring anime characters, and new original merchandise. Last year's winners included Suntory's campaign featuring Makoto Shinkai's blockbuster your name, Suntory Beer's campaign featuring the cast of Fist of the North Star, and ukiyo-e woodblocks of Hatsune Miku.

The second iteration will add new categories to represent campaigns that reach beyond Japan. These include the Technology and Innovation Division and International Division. The two new categories join the previous Animated Commercial Division, Content Collaboration Division, Original Content Division, Craft Design Division, and General Grand Prix Division.

Nominations will open on January 9 and run until March 9 at the awards' official website. The winners will be announced in early May at the Machi Asobi event.

The awards are created in part by Anime Busience magazine, a specialized anime business magazine that was launched in August 2013.
