Tokyopop to launch New Anime Line with Animation Masterpiece Kenji's Spring as debut title

Mixx Entertainment has sent out a press release officially announcing, and naming the new Anime arm of Tokyopop, TokyoPop Anime. They've also confirmed that their first release will be Kenji's Spring.

Excerpts:

TOKYOPOP is proud to announce the upcoming launch of its new anime line, TOKYOPOP® Anime, with the release of Spring and Chaos The Life Story of Kenji Miyazawa. Directed by legendary director Shōji Kawamori (Macross, Wings of Escaflowne), Spring and Chaos tells the tragic story of Kenji Miyazawa, Japan's most beloved modern poet.

Born at the end of the 19th Century, Miyazawa's work is known for its dramatic and surreal imagery. Director Kawamori exquisitely and powerfully portrays the heart of Miyazawa the man and his works in this animation masterpiece that was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Miyazawa's birth. To capture the essence of this scientist/poet, Kawamori employs several different animation techniques, including pencil animation, CGI, and hand-drawn animation. It is a must-see work for anyone interested in animation, Japanese culture, and the expression of art on film.

Spring and Chaos is being released as a Special Collector's Edition DVD and will go on sale May 29, 2001. The DVD features include an exclusive interview with Director Kawamori, a gallery of art, and more. Each package contains a limited edition animation cel.
