posted on by Christopher Macdonald
According to The Japan Times, Japanese researchers are proposing a government funded, 30-year, 50 Billion Yen a year (US$425m / year) research project geared towards developing a robot with mental, physical and emotional capabilities equivalent to those of a 5-year-old child. The project is named "Project Atom" in recognition of Osamu Tezuka's Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy).
