It was announced yesterday in Japan that Naoki Urasawa's very popular and long running series, Monster, is undergoing the transformation from manga series to TV series. The series is set to air in April of 2004.

Monster ran in Shogakugan's Big Comic Original from December 1994 to December 2001, with the first of 18 tankoubon being released in June 1995. By February 2002, when the final Tankoubon was released, over 20 million volumes of Monster had been sold in tankoubon (graphic novel) format.

In Monster, a Japanese doctor who works in a German hospital attempts to solve a gruesome serial killer case despite pressure from hospital staff to drop the case.

While the Japanese cast has yet to be decided on, the production crew is among the best anime producers in Japan. Monster will be produced at Mad House, directed by Masayuki Kojima with screenplay by Tatsuhiko Urahata and character designs by Kitarou Kousaka and Shigeru Fujita.
