Ikeda to Adapt Yukio Mishima's Spring Snow

Riyoko Ikeda, famous for The Rose of Versailles, is adapting Yukio Mishima's classic novel series Spring Snow (Haru no Yuki) into a new manga series.

Mishima, who's real name was Hiraoka Kimitake, was one of Japan's most famous authors of the 20th century and was nominated 3 times for the Nobel Prize for Literature, although he never won it.

At 45, Mishima committed seppuku (ritual suicide) in 1970 in a bid to incite a coup d'état and restore the emperor to power.

In order to maintain the integrity of Mishima's works, his family have allowed very few anime or manga adaptations to be created. However they agreed to allow Ikeda's adaptation of Spring Snow.

Spring Snow was also recently adapted into a live action movie, starring Satoshi Tsumabuki and Yuko Takeuchi, due to be released in Japan on October 29th.

The first of ten parts of the Spring Snow manga will be released in a Shukan Josei Magazine set on October 11th.
