Manga-Based Sakuran to Close Toronto Asian Film Festival

Sakuran, Mika Ninagawa's live-action movie based on Moyoco Anno's manga of the same name, will be the film featured at the closing night gala of this year's Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario. Starring J-rock singer Anna Tsuchiya, Sakuran tells the story of an 18th-century courtesan who breaks with expectations and tries to take control of her own destiny. It will be screened at the Isabel Bader Theatre at 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 18. Update: Headline updated for clarity.
