Long-coat chihuahua to promote ecology before July's G8 summit in Japan

Ener, the pet dog of Japanese rock artist Gackt (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation, New Fist of the North Star), will make his debut in the Ener's Big Adventure project that includes an anime and picture book. The long-coat chihuahua will promote environmental issues before the G8 summit of world leaders that will take place this July in Japan. Ener became a hit after he "posted" a daily Ashigaru Ener no Tonosama Nikki ("The Lord's Journals, as Recorded by a Common Foot Soldier, Ener") blog for Gackt's fan club members during Gackt's shooting of the Fūrinkazan samurai drama series. Gackt coined Ener's name from his hope that the dog will spread positive energy to everyone.

According to the official website, the project was born after Gackt's other pet dog Belle passed away in December and when Ener received a message from Heaven that said he must embark on an adventure to spread the word about the world's environmental issues. He will appear in Eco Gallery, an educational pavilion about ecology. The pavillion will open on June 1 in the same northern Japanese town of Tōyako that is hosting the G8 summit.
