Death Note Creators Confirmed to Launch Bakuman Manga

Tsugumi Ohba, Takeshi Obata's "explosive" work to start in Japan on August 11

This year's 36th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has confirmed on Monday that the Death Note writer/artist team of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata are launching a manga called Bakuman. in the next issue, which goes on sale on August 11. The magazine describes the new manga as "explosive." (The Japanese word for "explosion" is "bakuhatsu"). Maison de Penguin comedy manga creator Kōji Ōishi is also launching a new manga called Inumarudashi— two issues from now on August 26.

Although the Death Note manga ended its main run in Japan in 2006, Ohba and Obata created a Special Edition side story together in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February to coincide with the L change the WorLd movie spinoff's opening day. The North American distributor Viz Media has released the entire Death Note manga series, as well as the anime adaptation and a novel, while its sister company Viz Pictures is releasing at least the first live-action film adaptation.
