Votoms: Pailsen Files Prequel Gets Theatrical Release

posted on by Egan Loo
12-episode video spinoff from "real robot" classic just ended this past Friday

The official Japanese website of the Armored Trooper Votoms: Pailsen Files video series has announced that a theatrical movie version has been greenlit. Ryousuke Takahashi and Sunrise's 12-episode video series tells a prequel story to their classic 1983-1984 "real robot" anime, Armored Trooper Votoms. No more details have been made public on the theatrical release, but the official staff blog does say that more information will be provided on the website. The sixth and final volume with the 11th and 12th episodes just shipped on Friday in Japan.

Before Pailsen Files, the original Votoms anime series had already spawned six earlier video projects and even an American comic spinoff. Central Park Media released the original television series on home video in North America.

Takahashi had previously created a FLAG Director's Edition feature film, which compiled his Flag military drama anime series into a 101-minute theatrical release. However, the July 2007 theatrical screenings of the Flag film were limited to one theater in Tokyo for three days as the last showing of each evening.
