Media trade group honors year's achievements in annual creators convention

The Digital Content Association of Japan (DCAJ) gave awards to Production I.G's The Sky Crawlers film and Satelight's Macross Frontier television series at the 23rd Digital Content Grand Prix ceremony on October 25. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry established this industry association, and Panasonic President Fumio Ōtsubo currently leads it. The awards honor the year's achievements in new media at DCAJ's annual Digital Creators Convention. The Sky Crawlers received the Award of Excellence, while Shōji Kawamori's Macross Frontier received the Content Production Staff Award. The other winners include Nintendo's Wii Fit gaming and home fitness accessory, Apple's iPhone 3G mobile device, Casio's High Speed EXILIM EX-F1 digital camera, the Ryuku Cowboy, Yoroshiku Gozaimasu film, and the Tokyo Only Pictures 2008 event.

The Sky Crawlers already won the Jose Luis Guarner Critic Award, the Carnet Jove Jury award for best film for youths, and the award for best original soundtrack at last month's Sitges film festival in Spain. Mamoru Oshii's film also took home the Future Film Festival Digital Award at the Venice Film Festival in September. Sony Pictures has licensed the film for home video release in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Latin America. "Triangler," Macross Frontier's opening theme song composed by Yoko Kanno and performed by Maaya Sakamoto, will receive the Theme Song Award at the 13th Animation Kobe Awards next month.
