Shokotan's Live-Action U.S. Sukashi Hero Video Posted
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The first American live-action short based on Sukashi Kashipanman, the super hero character created by voice actress/singer Shōko Nakagawa, has been posted online in English. Nakagawa first revealed the existence of the project this past July when she reported that Sukashi Kashipan Man has a live-action project planned in America. Among the staffers on the American Sukashi project is Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel. The first five-minute short is also available on the character's official English website along with a few promotional videos.
In 2007, Nakagawa created an illustration of Sukashi Kashipanman based on her interest in sand dollars (sukashikashipan) and sweet buns (kashi pan). After showcasing the design on her blog and television appearances, Nakagawa turned the character in a mini-franchise with anime on mobile phone websites, a Nintendo DS game, a manga by Arima Honda in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine, and even an official sweet bun in LAWSON convenience stores. A DVD titled Sukashi Kashipan Man the Movie was released last year.
Nakagawa, or "Shokotan" as she is known to her fans, sang theme songs for the Gurren Lagann anime franchise and performed in the Eyeshield 21 anime series. Nakagawa performed at Anime Expo in Los Angeles last year.
