Crunchyroll to Simulcast Omamori Himari Comedy Anime (Update 2)
posted on 2010-01-05 15:24 EST by Egan Loo
The Crunchyroll media-distribution website has announced on Tuesday that it will begin streaming ZEXCS' anime adaptation of Milan Matra's Omamori Himari comedy manga on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. PST. The series will premiere in Japan on January 6.
The slapstick romantic comedy centers around an ordinary 16-year-old high school boy named Yūto Amakawa who is protected by a spirit — specifically, a beautiful, sword-wielding cat girl spirit named Himari. Yūto is descended from a family that has subjugated demons since time immemorial. The charm (omamori) that once protected him is now impotent, but fortunately, at that same moment, Himari appears before him as his new guardian.
Crunchyroll's Omamori Himari video streams will be available in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and the United Arab Emirates.
Update: According to Crunchyroll's press release, the website's subscribed Anime Members can see each Omamori Himari episode, in standard 480-line progressive resolution, within 24 hours of its Japanese premiere. Other users can see the same episode in standard definition for free one week later.
Update 2: Crunchyroll Vice-President of Licensing Rob Pereyda has announced on Wednesday, "Good news! We begged and were able to get a few more territories for Omamori Himari! UK, Ireland, and Brazil are coming soon!" Thanks, Shiroi Hane.
