Tsure ga Utsu ni Narimashite Manga Gets Film

Aoi Miyazaki, Masato Sakai in 2nd live-action take on couple coping with depression

Actress Aoi Miyazaki (NANA, Solanin, Origin: Spirits of the Past) and actor Masato Sakai (Honey and Clover, Yukikaze, Aoi Bungaku Series) will star in a live-action film adaptation of Tenten Hosokawa's Tsure ga Utsu ni Narimashite. manga this fall. In the humorous love story, a manga creator named Haru and her husband struggle to cope when the husband is diagnosed with depression.

Director Kiyoshi Sasabe (Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms, Chirusoku no natsu) began filming this film, his first in three years, on Sunday. The film's script was written over the past four years.

Hosokawa based the essay manga on her own life with her husband. Gentosha published the manga in 2006, and it eventually sold 300,000 copies. The manga already inspired a live-action television series on the public broadcaster NHK in 2009. In that version, Norika Fujiwara and Taizō Harada played the wife and husband, respectively.

Miyazaki and Sakai happened to have starred as a married couple in the live-action shogunate-era television series Atsuhime, which also ran on NHK in 2008. Ren Osugi (Uzumaki, Origin: Spirits of the Past) and Kimiko Yo (Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto, Suicide Club) also star in the Tsure ga Utsu ni Narimashite. film as Haru's parents.
