Viz Streams Subtitled Death Note Anime on Netflix
posted on by Gia Manry
California-based movie and television streaming site Netflix revealed via its syndicated feed on Friday that it has added the television anime series Death Note to its Instant Watch streaming library. Although North American licensee Viz Media dubbed the series for its 2007 DVD release, the streams on Netflix feature the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. All 37 episodes are currently available.
Death Note has a long digital history in the United States — for the American premiere, Viz offered the anime via Direct2Drive while the series was still airing in Japan. Viz also offers the series on iTunes and on its VizAnime.com streaming site.
Viz Media announced that it would stream anime via Netflix's Instant Watch service for the first time earlier this month. Death Note and other Viz titles had previously only been available from Netflix on DVD. The series added at that point — InuYasha, Hikaru no Go, Naruto, Honey and Clover, Bleach, and NANA — are also streaming subtitled with Japanese audio.
