Asaura's supermarket survival battle for half-price lunches to premiere on October 8

On Thursday, the official website for the television anime adaptation of Asaura's Ben-To "school serious/gag action" light novel series began streaming a series of commercials for three television stations running the anime. The anime will premiere on Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, and TVK on October 11, 8, and 9, respectively.

The story revolves around a poor high school student named Yō Satō (Hiro Shimono). Satō goes to the supermarket one day and discovers a bentō (boxed meal) on sale at half price. Just as he reaches to grab it, he ends up on the floor unconscious. Satō has just entered the fierce, no-holds-barred "supermarket survival battle" for half-price bentō.

Shin Itagaki (Devil May Cry, Mayoi Neko Overrun!) is directing the anime, and he is also responsible for story editing (with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu of Bleach, Monster and Gunslinger Girl) and design works. Katsuzo Hirata (Cosplay Complex, Hand Maid May) serves as both the character designer and the chief animation director. Taku Iwasaki (Black Butler, Gurren Lagann, Soul Eater) is composing the music. Mariya Ise and Emiri Katō voice the story's competitors Sen Yarizui ("The Frozen Witch") and Ayame Shaga ("The Beauty of the Lake"). Ise also sings the ending theme song, "Egao no Hōsoku," under Sen's name.

Asaura has been publishing the light novel series through Shueisha's Super Dash Bunko imprint since 2008. Kaito Shibano (Luminous Arc simulation role-playing games' character designs) illustrates the volumes.
