Mamoru Oshii Creates Chimamire My Love Manga/Anime Hybrid
posted on by Egan Loo
Mamoru Oshii, the director known for Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, and other anime titles, is delving into digital media with a manga/anime hybrid called Chimamire My Love (My Blood-Stained Love). The project is aimed at mobile devices — starting with the iPad, and then expanding onto the iPhone and Android mobile devices.
Oshii planned and created the project himself. The story revolves around a timid second-year high school student who finds a kindred spirit in a girl he meets via a blood donation site. The girl is actually a vampire, and the comedy follows the boy's madcap efforts to get blood donations for her.
Oshii noted that in this current downturn in anime and films, hybrid digital media such as this project offers new, unexplored possibilities. He added that he wants to do the kind of slapstick comedy that he has not done since Urusei Yatsura.
The completed work will premiere at the world's largest international short film festival in Clermont-Ferrand, France next February. It will then be distributed worldwide.
