AIC Teaches English With Ribbon-chan Magical Girl Anime Shorts

posted on by Egan Loo
Moetan's POP designs characters in summer anime with Sakura Tange in lead role

The studio Anime International Company (AIC) announced on Friday that it is producing an original short anime called "Maji de Otaku na English! Ribbon-chan" ~Eigo de Tatakau Mahō Shōjo ("Real Otaku English! Ribbon-chan" A Magical Girl Who Fights in English). The anime aims to teach English with cute girl characters just like Moetan, an English guidebook franchise that launched almost a decade ago and spawned an anime of its own. Like Moetan, the illustrator POP is designing the characters.

Sakura Tange is voicing the title character, while Hisako Kanemoto plays Bell. Rina Satō rounds out the main cast as Garnet. Keiji Fujiwara is serving as both sound director and narrator, and Yū Kobayashi and other voice cast members are also participating.

The anime is an official tie-in with the Akiba Blog website, which had teased an anime about its mascot "Nerd-chan" on Wednesday. Seiji Takakura developed the project in collaboration with Pastel Design and Air Agency (which is also handling the soundtrack). Yoshihito Nishōji (assistant director on Tentai Senshi Sunred 2 and R-15) is directing the project at AIC and AIC Frontier. Koujirou Nakamura (Tentai Senshi Sunred) wrote the script.

The anime will premiere on television this summer.
