The Japanese website Cinema Today began streaming the trailer for the third and final Mardock Scramble film, Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaust on Friday. The same footage in the trailer was also in the longer promotional video that debuted in June.
The film will open on September 29, and advance tickets are on sale with an original playing card set for 1,400 yen (about US$18).
In the story, a teenage prostitute named Rune Balot is murdered in an explosion. However, Dr. Easter saves her, and Balot is resurrected as an advanced cyborg. Balot takes on the worst of Mardock City's criminals as she looks for vengeance.
Megumi Hayashibara voices Rune Balot, and Susumu Kudo is directing the project at the new studio GoHands. Sentai Filmworks licensed the films for North America and released the first film, Mardock Scramble: The First Compression, on Blu-ray in March. Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion opened in Japanese theaters September 2011 and was released in Japan on English-subtitled Blu-ray Disc and DVD on July 25.
Variety reported in May that a live-action adaptation helmed by writer and director Michael Davis (Shoot 'Em Up, Monster Man) is in the works.
