Vertical's Release of Azuma's General Will 2.0 Delayed

posted on by Joanne Mertz

North American publisher Vertical acknowledged on Friday that its release of Hiroki Azuma's philosophy book General Will 2.0 has been postponed until further notice. Azuma is having the book translated into English himself, and Vertical cites the translation process as the cause for delay.

Azuma is a professor at Waseda University and the President/Editor-in-Chief of Contectures, LLC. He analyzes the otaku subculture, and is known for his previously translated book Otaku: Japan's Database Animals. In General Will 2.0, Azuma reinterprets philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau's concept of the "general will," revising it to fit the 21st century while looking at new possibilities in democracy offered by recent technological advances.
