Tongue-in-cheek video promotes return of cast & Mari Yamazaki's last manga volume

Enterbrain began streaming a teaser trailer for Thermae Romae II, the second live-action film inspired by Mari Yamazaki's historical comedy manga Thermae Romae, on Tuesday.

The trailer notes that the first Thermae Romae film premiered as an Official Selection at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival and earned Hiroshi Abe the Best Actor award at the 36th Annual Japan Academy Prizes. Tongue firmly in cheek, the trailer proclaims that "the miraculous ensemble cast from the greatest bath film masterpiece ever has been revived":

The sequel builds upon the epic scale of the first film for "this century's greatest bathing comedy spectacle." The trailer then pitches the original manga, since Enterbrain published the sixth and final volume on Tuesday. The work won the Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) award in 2010, followed by the Short Work Prize in the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prizes.

The sequel film will open during next spring's Golden Week string of holidays.

To commemorate the completion of the manga, the August issue of Enterbrain's Monthly Comic Beam magazine will include a fold-up Thermae Romae Complete Box for the series on July 12.

Yamazaki will start a Thermae Romae spinoff manga series in the October issue of Monthly Comic Beam on September 12. The original comedy manga follows Lucius, an architect of public bath houses (thermae) in ancient Rome who time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Yen Press published the second omnibus volume in North America in May, and Discotek licensed the anime mini-series in North America.
