posted on by Egan Loo
The official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of Sayaka Mogi's horror manga Pupa began streaming the first promotional video on Friday. The tale of "ultimate sibling love" follows a girl named Yume Hasegawa who turns into a monster. The video has Yume uttering "oniichan" (big brother) over and over again before the final reveal:
15-year-old Ibuki Kido plays Yume, while Nobunaga Shimazaki (Silver Spoon's Shinnosuke Aikawa, Date A Live's Shido Itsuka) plays her big brother Utsutsu who will become her living food supply. Kōji Yusa (Zetman's Seiji Haitani, Blue Exorcist's Renzō Shima) plays Shirō Onijima, and Kyōko Narumi (Teekyū's Nasuno Takamiya) rounds out the main cast as Maria.
Tomomi Mochizuki (House of Five Leaves, Ocean Waves, Here Is Greenwood, Twin Spica) is serving as the director, writer, and sound director of the anime at Studio DEEN (When They Cry - Higurashi, Rozen Maiden, Hetalia). Maki Fujii (UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie, 07-Ghost, Shattered Angels, Destiny of the Shrine Maiden) is serving as character designer and chief animation director.
The anime will premiere on television and on the Niconico streaming service this fall. Mogi launched the manga in the inaugural issue of Comic Earth Star magazine in 2011, and Earth Star Entertainment published the manga's fourth collected volume in Japan on September 12. The manga series has topped 350,000 copies.
