Madman to be first in the world to stream Knights of Sidonia from the 11th of April 2014 [UPDATE: Simulcast now cancelled];

The announcement was made during Madman's National Cosplay Championship at Supanova Expo Gold Coast on Saturday the 5th of April 2014. The announcement states that the series will be streaming from the 11th of April 2014 on the Madman Screening Room and new episodes will be online every Thursday. The English dub will be streamed from July 2014.

Knights of Sidonia

Based on the manga "Knights of Sidonia" by Nihei Tsutomu, the series is a "traditional science-fiction" story that takes place after humans flee Earth due to the devastating invasion of alien creatures called Gauna. Humans travel through space in giant ships while the Gauna continue to pursue them. As a new human culture develops, people fight the Gauna with Morito (Guardian) robotic mecha. A young man named Nagate Tanikaze trains as a Morito pilot aboard the spaceship Sidonia and defends its people from Gauna attacks.

Kobun Shizuno (G.I. Joe: Sigma 6, Detective Conan movie) is directing the anime with co-director Hiroyuki Seshita (Street Fighter x Tekken, Final Fantasy). Sadayuki Murai (Steamboy, Millennium Actress) is writing the scripts and serving as series script supervisor, and Yuki Moriyama (Street Fighter x Tekken, Dino Dominion) is adapting the characters for animation.

Netflix will be the first service to stream Knights of Sidonia in both the Japanese audio with English subtitles and in "dubbed local language dialogue" in all Netflix territories this summer (Netflix is not available in Australia).

The anime marks the 30th anniversary of POLYGON PICTURES, a studio that has earned Daytime Emmy Awards (Transformers Prime, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and an Annie Award (Tron: Uprising).

Knights of Sidonia will premiere on April 10 in Japan.

Note: Madman have since released a press release which you can view here.

EDIT: We at ANN wrote that Netflix would not be the first service to stream Knights of Sidonia due to this simulcast, this is incorrect and we are seeking further clarification.

[UPDATE]: Madman Entertainment have informed us that the previously planned simulcast of Knights of Sidonia has been cancelled. No reason has been given but Madman state that they apologise to fans for any inconvenience the cancellation may cause.
