Nintendo announced Thursday that the 3DS life simulation game Tomodachi Life is slated for release in North America and Europe on June 6. In the Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime, and senior product marketing manager of Nintendo of America Bill Trinen appear in Mii form to confess love to Samus, sing in a rock band, and hang out.
An alternate video the European announcement starring Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata is also streaming.
The game utilizes the player's Mii avatar to interact with friends in a virtual apartment complex. Nintendo of America president Fils-Aime cited the game as an example of the titles that gamers use in "short bursts of play, on a day-in, day-out basis," similar to Animal Crossing. Released as Tomodachi Collection: Shin Seikatsu in Japan last April, it is a sequel to the earlier 3DS game Tomodachi Collection.
Players can choose partake in various activities with their Miis such as love confessions, eating, changing outfits, interacting with others Miis, and playing video games. Players can also customize the personality, voice, and looks of the Miis.
Celebrity singer Christina Aguilera is promoting the game by appearing in online videos and commercials for the product. Her Mii character is also scheduled for the game's launch. Nintendo confirmed future celebrity collaborations.
