Lionsgate and Saban Brands collaborate on production

Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced on Wednesday that they will team up to produce a new live-action film based on the 1990's television series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The new film will feature the characters from the original series.

The Power Rangers franchise previously inspired two live-action films from 20th Century Fox: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was released in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie was released in 1997.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the subsequent Power Rangers series use recut footage from the Japanese Super Sentai franchise. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers primarily used footage from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, and the currently running series, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, uses footage from Tensō Sentai Goseiger and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.
