Comic Con International announced on Monday that it will host writer and artist Tsutomu Nihei as a special guest at this year's convention.

Nihei wrote and illustrated the science fiction manga Blame! from 1997 to 2003. The series inspired a net anime adaptation in 2003, and has an upcoming theatrical anime adaptation in the works from POLYGON PICTURES. Nihei also wrote and illustrated the Knights of Sidonia manga from 2009 to 2015, and POLYGON PICTURES produced two anime season adaptations, as well as a theatrical film compiling the first season. Blame! also received an anime adaptation within the Knights of Sidonia anime's second season.

The convention will run from July 21-24 at the San Diego Convention Center. The convention is also hosting Pokémon manga creators Hidenori Kusaka and artist Satoshi Yamamoto.
