Shinkai's 'your name.' Drops to #3 in Box Office, In This Corner of the World to #9

Shinjuku Swan II sequel film drops to #6 in 2nd weekend

Makoto Shinkai's your name. (Kimi no Na wa.) anime film dropped from #1 to #3 in the Japanese box office for the January 28-29 weekend. The film briefly returned to the #1 spot last week after nine weeks off the top spot. The film is on its 23rd weekend in Japan. The film started screening with English subtitles across Japan on January 28. The subtitled screenings feature the English versions of RADWIMPS' four theme songs, and will screen for two weeks.

As of Sunday, the film has earned 23.83 billion yen (about US$211 million) in Japan.

Shinjuku Swan II, the sequel to the live-action film of Ken Wakui's Shinjuku Swan manga, dropped from #3 to #6 in its second weekend. The film opened in Japan on January 21.

Sunao Katabuchi's (Mai Mai Miracle, Black Lagoon) In This Corner of the World anime film dropped from #7 to #9 in its 12th weekend. The film opened at 63 theaters, but more theaters are adding screenings due to the film's popularity. The film's website now lists more than 200 theaters that have screened or will screen the film.

The Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Biohazard the Final) live-action film, the Eiga Yo-kai Watch: Sora Tobu Kujira to Double no Sekai no Daibōken da Nyan! anime film, and the live-action Dōbutsu Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger: Mirai kara no Message from Super Sentai (Animal Sentai Zyuohger vs. Ninninger: Message from the Future from Super Sentai) film all fell off the top 10 chart during the January 28-29 weekend.
