Anime Limited Plans Bigger UK-Ireland Cinema Release for Godzilla Minus Zero
posted on by Andrew Osmond

According to the report, "Anime Limited will establish broader theatrical footprints earlier in the release cycle and sustain longer runs compared to the first film's more cautious rollout. The distributor also plans to leverage premium large formats more aggressively – a strategy validated by Anime Limited's own research showing 82% of over 1,000 surveyed fans would choose to see films on the biggest screen possible."
Kerry Kasim, Anime Limited's general manager for the UK and Ireland, commented that Godzilla Minus One widened the UK audience for Japanese live-action films.
The report also mentions Anime Limited's forthcoming UK cinema releases of Baku Kinoshita's The Last Blossom (opening on Friday March 27), Akira, Grave of the Fireflies, a 4K restoration of Mamoru Oshii's Angel's Egg and Yasuhiro Aoki's ChaO,
However, the report adds that physical media is still central to Anime Limited's business model. Kasim is quoted as saying, “People are starting to realize that having things available purely digitally is not a guarantee you'll always be able to access that film or series.” She highlights the rising audience for 4K home releases, saying many of them are bought by customers who don't have a 4K setup. "They're future-proofing their copies.”
Godzilla Minus Zero will open in Japan on November 3, which is "Godzilla Day," the anniversary of the first Godzilla film's release on November 3, 1954. The film's release date in the UK and Ireland is TBC.
