Krizalid and Omega Rugal Join the Fight in The King of Fighters AFK

LOS ANGELES - APRIL 16, 2026 - Netmarble, a renowned developer and publisher of high-quality games, has released a new in-game update for its AFK RPG THE KING OF FIGHTERS AFK. Players can experience a new fighter, a variety of in-game events, and an expanded team formation. 

This update introduces a major gameplay enhancement, increasing the number of fighters that can be deployed in Story Stages from 5 to 9. Additional slots will unlock progressively based on players' current stage progression. What's more, the tiers of Synergy Effects have been expanded to unlock stronger and more flexible combinations that allow players to explore new ways to approach the battle. To commemorate the update, a special check-in event will run from April 16 to April 29. Those who log into the game for 7 days during the event period will receive generous rewards including 50 DNA and 2,400 Fighter Origins.  

Krizalid is a new fighter with [Corrosion] synergy that joined the roster. As an executive of NESTS, Krizalid wields flame-based attacks and possesses powerful signature skills including “Lightning Disaster EX” and “Desperate Overdrive EX.” The Krizalid Pick-Up Event and the [Corrosion] Synergy Fighter Summon Event are running through April 29 that allows players to acquire Krizalid and fighters with [Corrosion] synergy, respectively. 

In addition, Omega Rugal, a dark weapon merchant and a fighter with [Special] Synergy, has returned as part of the update. Omega Rugal's [Boss Mode] increases his attack and reduces incoming damage each time he is hit. Players can obtain Omega Rugal through the League Battle Shop and Premium Summon.  

Other in-game events include the Lucky Elpy Event running from April 21 to April 25 where players have an opportunity to get a Legendary Supporter kimjaehoon. From April 23 through May 6, the Breezy Hideout Event provides a chance to meet Legendary pets KeKe-zalid and Archybeav.  

THE KING OF FIGHTERS AFK is based on SNK's “THE KING OF FIGHTERS” IP. The game features iconic fighters from “THE KING OF FIGHTERS” series reimagined in pixel art graphics that gamers are familiar with from THE KING OF FIGHTERS R-2 on NEOGEO POCKET COLOR, allowing players to build their own team of favorite Fighters and enjoy dynamic combats. Players can strategically create their decks by combining at least 5 and up to 25 different Fighters and formations.
