Early anime that now seems extremely dated. But I loved it as a kid. |

After almost fifty years, this film still flows with optimism. Entirely set in a short stretch of laneway, the characters consist of a girl whose teddy bear has fallen out of her attic window and become stuck in the roof gutter, an inquisitive mouse, a moth with attitude, a spluttering street lamp, a tree that is shedding leaves and seeds, and a series of posters lining the laneway walls. Yet it encompasses an entire world of possibilities, including strife, tragedy and renewal. Despite the short running time, the limited setting and the basic artwork and animation, there is more joy and creativity than you may find in many a 26 episode series. |
