Hayao Miyazaki mentioned on the Cut magazine Sep issue interview that next film director is a yong but not ture rookie.
Goro Miyazaki is a yong but not ture rookie.
Hayao Miyazaki also mentioned that he wrote its script and it's the story of a girl and positive boys.

I'm surprised they're letting Goro Miyazaki direct something again.

Tales from Earthsea wasn't so bad, I sort of liked it. I look forward to this movie.

I would be lying if I didn't say I'm a bit disappointed that this isn't a new Takahata film. The man is a master director, but we haven't seen anything from him in a decade. Wonder what ended up happening to Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Notheless, I'm very excited for this. Ghibli slice-of-life tends to be great, and though Gedo Senki was the weakest film in the Ghibli canon I think Goro could become a very good director. I'll be seeing this the day it comes out.

I look at it this way. After Earthsea, he can only go up.

Hayao Miyazaki praises Kokuriko-zaka on his book Stating Point.

People seem to either love or hate Tales from Earthsea. I personally love the film despite its flaws, and am looking forward to its domestic DVD release. Having said that, it's great to read that Goro is still making movies (he'll likely improve as a filmmaker that way), so I'm definitely curious and looking forward to this title.

I didn't like ToES (my brother, a huge Le Guin fan, did), but I welcome any new Ghibli movie.

I'm surprised he's directing again. Well, let's see what he can manage with this type of material.

Frankly, Tales of Earthsea was a critical and commercial disastrer. Heavyhanded, humerous and pointless, it is by far the worse of the eighteen Ghibli fiims to date. I assume that the experience with Mamoru Hosoda on Howl's Moving Castle soured Ghibli on working outside directors into the Ghibli system.

However, I cannot understand how anyone displaying as little talent for directing as Goro did on Earthsea would be given another Ghibli film to direct.

As a true lover of Ghibli (and I yield to no one in my love and admiration of their films), I am saddened and disheartened by this inexplicable announcement.

I think that's the first time I've seen the phrase "beginner's luck" used ironically.

I think it's beautiful to see both names lined up side by side.
Planning: Miyazaki Hayao - Director: Miyazaki Goro.
This gives me a feeling that father and son are reuniting, leaving the tense feelings behind and is getting down to serious work together.
If this is the case, which I hope it is, then Goro will have the best mentor ever. And after seeing Earthsea there is no doubt he has the potential once he's had some serious development and experience.
Keep in mind that Hayao Miyazaki had a massive amount of TV productions behind before he started directing feature films and eventually founded Studio Ghibli. It didn't just happen all by itself.

What strikes me as the craziest thing in the world is that as of today this movie is in the final stage of storyboarding, and it's gonna be released in the coming summer. That's crazy. They're gonna animate, edit and finish the movie in half a year. Crazy.
