I'd rather not watch this show is that's how the production team is going to act. Did it occur to them that most fansubs are ripped from Japanese television and not streams?
Common sense 101: Punishing loyal viewers does not increase ratings.

Where's the +1 button? Haha, good luck Funi! Funi reps, maybe you ought to consider a paid membership CR style? I'd certainly pay if you were consistently offering quality titles like Fractale (might end up being...). Not that it would stop the rest of the internetz from distributing/watching the show via other methods.

Regardless, you have my condolences as well. Should you get it back, I'll be certain to check Fractale out on your site.

I'd disagree. Despite bumps in the road, legal streaming has only been growing since it got started in earnest. Though I certainly hope this attitude doesn't catch on.

Hopefully, Funimation can continue to work with their Japanese partners to reach a solution that doesn't punish honest consumers, doesn't encourage disgruntled fans to download out of spite, and doesn't send such an antagonistic message to fans worldwide. |
Very well said. I for one am not going to do anything to enable the people that caused this situation in the first place.

Reading the way they put it in the article, it doesn't sound like they expect Funi to do anything. It just sounds like they want to be bitter old men about the whole thing. There's illegal copies of their work swarming the net > it will never be stopped > stop the online stream they have control over!
Can't blame 'em for acting that way, I know I have... We're only human. Not saying that makes it any less stupid or immature, but I bet that's what happened. Or not.. with the state of things atm, maybe they DO want Funi to take up the banner. I doubt it though.
Either way I'm done trying to think about it. The whole thing's dumb and I'm sorry, Funimation, for being stabbed in the back by both sides, the fans and Japan, at the same time.

Just tell the JP license holder to go jump in a lake and quit doing business with them. You shouldn't have to put up with headaches like this.

I was happily supporting the studio by watching the legal stream of the show. But oh well, back to watching it illegaly then. This made no difference to me what-so-ever. *yawn
I swear Japan used to be at the forefront of innovative thinkings. Yet for some reason they never caught on the idea of internet distribution. Now they're stuck in their backward business models with an imploding anime industry.
But again, it doesn't affect me either way. If anime industry dies due to backward thinkings, so be it. I'll just find some other entertainment that was smart enough to adopt to new technology.

I'm assuming for the sake of logical consistency that the FPC will pull the show from Fuji TV as well until the broadcaster pitches in and helps Funi wipe out all fansubbers/rippers on the Internet, yes?

I apologize, I should have worded that a bit better. I was speaking more to Japanese companies in general rather than anime companies specifically. However, the more I think about it, it reminds me more of the way teachers used to punish middle school children

After going through all possible options, the committee has just decided to stop making the show. After all, as long as its being made, it will be seen illegally by someone. So this is the most logical choice.

I really want to stay a comfortable distance away from what's already becoming a really ugly issue and I don't WANT to take sides but...
...maybe the Japanese company is doing this because they just don't think Funimation and other companies are being aggresive enough in shutting down illegal downloading?
Now, I'm not saying Funimation are or are not taking enough action, but maybe if they step up their game a little and improve themselves to a level that the Japanese company sees as adequite, they'l let the simulcast resume?

This is some ol bull****. I really enjoyed the first episode and was really looking forward to the second one. Don't they get that there's really no way to remove it from the net?

Naw, Fuji TV (Funimation) didn't do anything wrong. It's not their fault that people record the episodes (rip the streams) and proceed to upload them onto the net (use as their own reference for building the subs). I mean, when anyone with the right tools and knowledge can get whatever content they want on the net, you can't get mad at everyone. You just have to work around and develop better methods of combating this loss of profits.
...Wait...

Crunchyroll gets ripped off every day and those companies don't care; they accept it as a necessary evil so long as enough people are watching it legally. Why the Fractale staff doesn't see it the same way I do not understand.
Were this a simple leak, like the One Piece debacle or ANN's initial attempts at streaming, they'd be well within their rights to be angry and demanding the simulcast be pulled. But what do they want Funimation to do? They can send out cease-and-desist orders and spend money on law suits, but sadly it's like pulling up mushrooms, more emerge from the rhizome somewhere else.
The best thing is to lure honest fans like me away from the fansubs by offering legal streams. And you know what? In good faith, I will not resort to fansubs as a result of this. I will stand in solidarity with Funimation as they are subjected to this unreasonable demand. I'll be patient -- because I have the hope that the Fractale committee will realize how unreasonable they're being and allow me to legally support their product once again!

This just in: Every anime company in Japan has ceased broadcasting, production, reproduction, sales and future business ventures until all of the internet service providers of the world shut themselves down. You heard it here first. The internet and anime cannot coexist in this world.
