Sorry to break it to ya buddy, but you should've put 2 and 2 together when you decided to read the sequel which the prequel was originally written around. Look on the bright side, you know the beginning and end, now you have the puzzle of figuring out how they get from point A to B using pieces (episodes) to help you.

Episode 8:
This episode cements Irisviel as my favorite character, as it was nice to see that she has a few tricks of her own up her sleeve. (Although Lancer is a close second.) I also got the distinct impression from her comments to and about Maiya that she knows (or at least suspects) that Emiya and Maiya might have a thing going on and isn't bothered by it. Emiya's a lucky guy, and Kirei is so, so wrong with his comments near the end.
And who else would like to see Saber and Lancer regularly team up? The respect that they have for each other is almost as enjoyable to watch as the action, and they work so well together as a team. I look forward to the hentai dojinshi that will doubtlessly eventually appear involving those two.

You know, it didn't occur to me until right this moment that Old Man Emiya is actually a harem lead, too.

Hello surprise flashback! Now I wonder what the deal is with the green haired chick that turned one of Emiya's ribs into sixty-six mage-slaying bullets...

So far we've seen one negative consequence of Kiritsugu's paranoia: Saber has to fight with one hand partially disabled for extended periods of time because he wants Irisviel to keep Avalon's location a secret of Saber, meaning she can't use it to heal Saber's wound--or at least attempt to do so. I wonder what other consequences there will be in the future.
As much as I enjoyed seeing Kirei kick ass, this episode just didn't interest me all that much, probably because I despise Kiritsugu. The next episode seems more interesting. I'm a bit hesitant on the expectations, because the preview lines seem to always be taken out of context to imply something other than what will happen, but it seems Waver and Rider will finally fight in some manner. And I'm guessing Lancer is going to refuse to change his allegiance, even if El-Melloi agrees to transfer his seals to Sola-Ui.

Oh man, one of my favorite episodes so far. Key, may I ask what about Iresviel attracts you so strongly to her character? I don't disagree or think otherwise that she is not an admirable character, but I am curious. As you can see, I am a diehard Saber fan
Episode 8 should keep the action hungry satiated and I expect 9 to be less frantic, but I wouldn't expect another episode 1 repeat. I'm super happy the anime adaption of this well written story has portrayed it so successfully, I just wish they'd hurry up and release all the episodes

I think Sabre has lost something in this edition of the franchise. While she has gained gravitas (especially compared with UBW) she has lost the comic edge that made her so appealing. In F/SN she was so lawful good, so literal in her interpretations and so straightforward as a warrior, the effect was faintly absurd, giving her a human and endearing balance to her fighting skills. Here is she is more robotic. Happily her relationship with Lancer enriches her character.
I also like Irisviel. Even though she's an homunculus, she not only has a very human approach to the other characters but also does things with considerable relish - witness her driving, something that brought out sweat beads on Sabre. There's a subtly crazy edge to her that appeals to me. Opposite tendencies within a character also appeals to me, so her mixture of frailty, courage and ability, along with that barely suppressed relish, make her more complex than she first seems.

There's really only one thing that kinda bugs me about this episode...Kirei breaking that tree in half to escape is a bit shocking, yes, but it still took him a ridiculously long time to break free, rather than watch, one of them coulda easily grabbed the machine gun and sprayed his back already.
Anyone have any idea what those CG crystal things are supposed to be during the preview for the next episode? They're pretty, and they appear to have some order in them rather than pretty random stone, but no idea what.

She couldn't even if she tried. Gae Buidhe's debuff prevents any sorta healing.
Diaguird woulda made an excellent Assasin with that spear of his. But nooo...it just had to be those sorry excuse of an organization that can be Assasins.

Regarding Irsviel...I hope you guys don't get too attached, because as we already know from F/SN the homunculus of Einzbern family don't last long for one reason or another

Oh Fate/Zero. Have my manbabies already. This show is steadily becoming the highlight of my week. Haven't had that feeling with an anime since Higurashi.
I actually thought they might have killed Irisviel off in this episode, and I appreciate this show for giving me the level of uncertainty necessary for that. I wouldn't have put it past them, at least.

Oh I'd bet such things will be in supply come this winter's Comiket. I came back from a local university event just today where students were selling their crafts and artwork and such, and there was a good number of Fate/Zero art to be had. The supply and demand seems to be building.

Aren't they the command seal insignias for each respective master?
And as an aside... I like the F/Z assassin(s). :p
EDIT:
@Kirkdawg: Even though it was also implied early on in F/Z, it still might be best to designate that as a F/SN spoiler.

Not a Masamune fan anymore?

1. Given Irisviel's hand gestures, she can't move freely, or she will lose control of the strings. No excuse for why Maiya didn't move though.
2. The purple crystal patterns are command seals. No idea about the green ones.
3. Avalon can heal any wound, so we have an unstoppable force meets immovable object problem. That Kiritsugu was not willing to try it says something about him.

A wound by Gae Buidhe cannot be healed by natural or magical means. A materialized Avalon can defend against any attack, but it is not stated that it can heal every wound, only that it bestows limited immortality through regeneration that Gae Buidhe counters specifically.

I'd imagine Maiya was too incapacitated to take out her gun, but when she got her second wind it was too late.

Never was. As much as I liked Witchblade as a series, I always disliked the character designs.
And I, too, did think that Irisviel was going to be signing off for good when Kirei ran her through. She has given a fatalistic vibe since the very beginning, so I would be more surprised if she survived this series.
