Why does the dubbed version still say dark, burning, shadow, grizzly, ect. and not the actual names? The visual stuff was normal, the alchol was brown, the fire was red, ect.
Could someone tell me why the dub is like that? |

Maybe bandai didn't feel like or didn't see any need to record any more tracks for all the names of the gundams. I'm sure they are still the original names (devil, god, etc.) on the subs. Bandai probably didn't view G-Gundam as a big money maker. I personally didn't enjoy G-Gundam because, while the gundams and all the battles are cool, there really isn't anything besides the battles. I think the only reason it is so huge is because of the shear number of different gundams in the series. It has an okay storyline, but nothing I would call spectacular. I have seen most of the different gundam series out there and, in my opinion it is pretty far down on the list of the best gundam series.

The new names were mandated by Sunrise, so Bandai didn't have much choice in the matter.

I liked G-Gundam myself. Granted, the storyline wasn't as good as the orginal gundam(not even close), but I thought it was OK. Most of the Gundam designs were good, so I didn't have a problem with the large number of fights. I found some of the designs rather amusing, as long as you don't take it too seriously(nether and tequla gundams.) I haven't watched that many gundam shows, and I will say that I thought the orginal gundam and 8th MS team were better. But, I still thought G-Gundam was entertaining at least.
Regardless of the reason, I was rather dissapointed with them using the dub from CN on the DVD. If I'm not mistaken, they did the same thing on the Big O DVD's. But anyway, it's not really that big a deal since I prefer to watch the subtitled version anyway. |

Does anyone know any other shows like G Gundam? Dont say any other gundam series because they are not like it. Yes I know G Gundam is kinda chessey but it keeps a strait face through it and thats one of the things I like about it.
Is G Gundam a "giant robot" show? I heard someone describe as the best "giant robot" show ever made and ever will be. Are there other shows with giant robots, kinda chessey, action, cool characters(shwarz, master asia) cool over the top moves(shining finger, darkness finger, super mode) but still keep things semi-serious to make it just plain awsome(by my standards)? |

G-Gundam was a homage to the Super Robot shows of the '70s, with the distinct Gundam themes of war, Earth vs. Space, and old vs. new added to give it that unique Gundam feel. It's intended to be just a little cheesy and corny, and therein lies its genius.

You want Giant Robo, a 7 episode OVA from the same director as G Gundam. It's serious but with over the top characters and retro designs. It also has some utterly amazing animation, and a plot that moves at frantic pace. Manga released it on VHS, and will hopefully bring it out on DVD soon (they're apparently trying to get some more extras for it). |

Yes. I saw it at Suncoast last Friday.
Voltron. (Especially the series Auto Voltron was made from.) Mazinger. Getter Robo. Dunbine? ... Just do a search on Google for "classic giant robot anime", or something vaguely to that effect. You'll find tons.
Last I heard, the franchise was caught up in licensing limbo. At Katsocon 2003 (Feb.) Manga announced that "The American DVD version of Giant Robo is being delayed by licensing issues", and at this year's ACen (May) they were still saying that American DVD distribution for Giant Robo is still in negotiations."
