a study on the effects of drawn images and animations of children being sexually abused came to the conclusion that those who view such drawings do not necessarily go on to actually abuse children themselves.

This is where the courts and ministers ignore the studies and dictate the law as they see fit anyway.

Probably true (but then again the courts and ministers will not violate the freedom of speech over this), but whoever did the report at least had a brain and a common sense. Even if they tried to ban it or demonize it, many danish fans of anime/manga will protest and even called for a occupy Copenhagen or a Danish Day of Rage if what you said could come true.

Took them long enough. Someone should forward this to TvTropes.

Oh no! What is this!? Reason!? Scientific discourse!? We can't allow this to get in the way of all our snap-decision moral grandstanding, can we?!

Laughing

Thanks for actually having the sense to study the subject, Denmark. You're a forward thinking nation in my book.

Sadly enough, this won't be enough to convince people that lolicon and shotacon aren't really harming anyone. You'll be amazed at how people will hold onto their biases.

Of course not. Blind bigotry is blind bigotry, after all. The whole world isn't going to wake up and realise that just because they think something is gross doesn't mean it's actually harmful just because some Scandinavians did a study. Still, it's nice to see someone is actually being open minded about the subject.

That's true, but every cultural tide has to start somewhere.

TVTropes was just looking for an excuse, any excuse. I told Fast Eddie that to his (proverbial) face, right before he banned me.

Well that's good ne.....

Wait, they had to conduct a study to determine that drawings don't hurt people? Confused

Well a study's a study no matter how unneeded it is, someone forward a copy to Canada, England, Australia and all other countries that needs to get with the time please.

What does this have to do with TvTropes? Are they deleting everything loli/shota-related? I know there's a pretty strong anti-anime bias there, but I thought it covered all things anime/manga related and not just loli/shota.

They've removed all articles on pornographic works, and articles for lots of things that could be considered "loli".

Plus the general anti-anime bias.

While pornographic drawings of children are currently illegal in Sweden and Norway, they are legal in Denmark.

wait.. didn't the Sweden Supreme Court just rule that it wasn't illegal after all?

The Supreme Court explained that while it considered the drawings to be pornographic depictions of children, they were nevertheless imaginary. "The criminalization of possession of the drawings would otherwise exceed what is necessary with regard to the purpose which has led to the restriction on freedom of expression and freedom of information."

Chagen was also banned for linking to some Touhou picture(most of the cast are demon lolis, AFAIK), so it's a bit more personal in his case. Given the sort of echochamber it was turning into when I left(the mods were more-or-less openly discussing adding "having an opinion the staff doesn't like" to the definition of "dick"), I'd put them at the top of the list of places to ignore the report.

My apologies for making corrections to your post, but I felt a little more accuracy would drive home the point.

You all need to remember one thing: laws don't mean shit. If your next door neighbor thinks pictures are child porn, you'll be having the police knocking on your door and will have to deal with their opinion on the matter.

I've learned a long time ago, facts are irrelevant, even in a court of law.

Actually, I was banned for linking to a non-loli ecchi pic. While another member in the touhou thread was posting futanari porn. And he didn't get banned.

Fast Eddie pretty much stated that I actually did nothing wrong, and that he basically made up some bullshit "offense" out of mid-air to have an excuse to get rid of me. I was pissed at the time, but now I'm kind of glad I'm not on there anymore, that forum was a giant neckbeard hugbox.
