Have you guys ever experienced this?
Lets say there is an embarassing anime series which surprisingly, you enjoy watching. Although in a public/social situation you are afraid to mention this series in front of your peers and constantly deny liking this series. Or maybe while you watch this series you ask yourself, "Why am I watching this?" etc. And close the window/scroll down/look away from the screen, etc. |

You should probably provide your own example.
In my case, no. If I like something, I like it. I don't even have "guilty pleasures" just the ordinary sort. |

Meh, I don't feel any embarrassment for what I watch. I usually subject my friends to things that would be deemed "embarrassing" for any plethora of reasons.

Strike Witches: when fan service gets that pervasive, I don't even see it after the first few minutes. The odd thing is the whole thing could have been done with skirts with no change in the story and with short pants with a rewrite for only one episode.

I'm another who's not ashamed of what he likes. Hell, I proudly brought in my Strike Witches box set to watch at my anime club, and it even won the vote!
If anything I have shows that I'll never hesitate to say are utter trash but I love them all the same. The Ikkitousen animes are my main example. |

Anything cutesy, romantic, slice of life and school girl infested. K-On, Kimi Ni Todoke, Toradora + many others. I wonder if I can ever be a manly man again >.<

If I was truly ashamed of it, would I mention that I liked it online?

I'm not really ashamed of it but I do find it funny that despite it's MANY flaws, Fushigi Yuugi is still one of my top 10 favourite anime. I just love that thing to death.
Vampire Knight is also up there, though I think it is far less flawed than FY. |

Kodomo No Jikan.
I feel SO WRONG for loving it (mostly the manga. Anime's not that ecchi) But.....it's such a freaking good story with amazing characters. No matter what tasteless fanservice Kaworu-sensei throws at me, I just keep reading it every month and I hate when chapters end so quickly. |

For the most part, I don't like things that I might be ashamed of. Strike Witches? Hated it. Ikki Tousen? Don't talk to me about Ikki Tousen! (Seriously, don't, that was a painful period in my life)
Yet, there are some things that by all rights violate my principals that I've liked. These tend to be weird, blatant, exploitative yet somehow ebullient trash. I liked Weather Report Girl and Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne even though by all rights, I feel like I shouldn't. (I even liked some of the first half of Speed Grapher when it was just being over-the-top and ridiculous) One's about a woman who finds success by flashing her underwear on television and the other essentially the anime equivalent of a skinemax movie, but I enjoyed watching them. Hell, I'll probably watch both again. |

You didn't like the rest of it or you liked the rest of it, but that wasn't unexpected because it was more normal? |

Kaichou wa Maid-sama and Gentlemen's Alliance Cross come the closest. Maid-sama because the main reason I enjoy it is Usui, and Gentlemen's Alliance because you really can't get much more pure, undiluted, capital-letters SHOUJO (and all the good and bad that entails) than that series. It's so mushy and girly and soapy, and the art style is so cluttered, and the characters all look alike, and the school uniforms are so elaborate as to be completely impractical (and probably impossible)...Yet I enjoy it. Yep. No regrets.
Also, things like Black Butler and Hetalia, just because when I tell people I hate BL and then they see the posters from those series in my room, they don't believe me. I don't really like being associated with the more rabid fangirls of either of those series, but I'm lumped in with them anyway just because I happen to like those series. It gets annoying. |

I might as well throw on that sometimes I feel a little ashamed of liking Excel Saga and especially Puni Puni Poemy. Some parts of them are awfully loud and dumb, especially the latter, but I enjoyed the heck out of Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemy made for a good, quick lark. I think that they, and the more salacious trash that I liked, have a common absurdity to them, although they needn't and perhaps shouldn't be interpreted too credulously.
Or whatever, I don't know. quandoque bonus dormitat Homerus and all that.
I'm failing to quite grasp what your question is probing for, so I'll just refer you to what I thought of it when I first saw it about half a year ago. |
