I was thinking of how creators of anime/manga and if they pay homage to past sucessful works in some of their new works. This thought came across to me when I was watching Busou Renkin. It was the episode in which Kazuki is out looking for Chouno Koushaku. When Tokiko is shown after being bandaged up by Mahiro she perfectly resembles (besides the brown skin and dark hair) Makoto Shishio of Rurouni Kenshin. After later finding out that the creator of Busou Renkin (manga) is the same as the creator of Rurouni Kenshin I thought of that scene as an homage to that character.........or just a treat to fans of both series to pick out. Though now the 2 series are pretty much a decade apart its nice to see something like that in this series.
I was just wondering if other manga/anime creators do the same by showing something of their previous works in some of their new works.

In Detective Conan/Case Closed, Gosho Aoyama reused a character from an older work in it, Kaito Kid, who had his own short-lived series. Also, I remember a chapter that featured characters from Yaiba, also an older work.

Oh wait, how could I forget about Tsubasa Chronicle. Pretty much the entire series features characters from various old CLAMP works as current ones (xxxHolic).

Heh...
In Hungry Heart Wild Striker, Miki-chan mentions that she didn't know about soccer because she was a Kanou Seisuke fan, but because she had read a soccer manga, which is probably Captain Tsubasa. It'ss confirmed in the manga, since 'she knew Misaki, Hyuga and Wakabayashi,' three of the four main CT characters.
Both series were made by Takahashi Yoichi.

The second volume of Ergo Proxy is named after Hugo Gernsback SF novel Ralph 124C 41+ which was written almost 100 years ago. I know I keep bringing this up, but I feel as though I'm the only one here who has read this book. The famous Hugo awards were even named after him.

Chikane and Himeko from Kannazuki no Miko not only appear in Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, they're important characters. Their names are only slightly changed (Kaon and Himiko), their VAs are the same, their character designs are the same except that one now has glasses.

Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, though, is basically to Kaishaku what Tsubasa Chronicle is to CLAMP. It's a general rueinion of characters across all of their works, and also features characters from Magical Meow Meow Taruto, Steel Angel Kurumi, and UFO Princess Valkyrie, as well.

Hmm, I didn't know that. I've only seen little pieces of those other three shows. Nevertheless, maybe that explains why Kyoshiro felt so blatantly unoriginal to me.

Just remembered something but I believe a lot of Masamune Shirow's works intertwine though I'm not sure if this occurs in the manga of in any of the anime.
Anyways its cool to see that Nagisa is still on the forums. Before this last week I was pretty scarce on the forums posting like once a month. I thought with all the new mods Nagisa might've left but its cool to see that you're still here.
Well, I'll post something more useful if I can remember something later on. Feel free to delete this post if any of the mods find it unnecessary or contributes little to the thread.

In one of the Shaman King OAVs, Yoh started imagining a fight scene from Butsu Zone, which was another Hiroyuki Takei work. I totally didn't understand what was going on until I looked it up x)
And in Fullmetal Alchemist, if you look carefully during the first couple episodes, you can see logos for a brand of liquor called Stray Dog around Liore, which I believe was the title of Hiromu Arakawa's first manga.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi also has a billion nods to other Kyoto Animation projects, but I don't know if that counts.

Just finished watching episode 10 of Busou Renkin and the name of one of the Busou Renkin is definitely (to me at least) an homage to Rurouni Kenshin's dub name Samurai X. This time though the sword (which is the Busou Renkin) is called Sword Samurai X.

The name of Shusui Hayasaka's Buso Renkin is Sword Samurai X, after the name of the English OVA title for Rurouni Kenshin. Watsuki had previously stated that he loved the title, and had originally planned to use it in his previous series, Gun Blaze West.

Yazawa Ai does it a fair amount: characters from her manga Gokinjo Monogatari appear in Paradise Kiss (the main character of Gokinjo is the older sister of one of the characters of ParaKiss, Mikako and Miwako). The NANA manga's Junko's Room omakes also feature lots of crossover with Paradise Kiss.

While it isn't quite the creator paying homage to himself, the animators of One Piece love to insert in Panda Man in the background of many scenes. The panda-masked wrestler was a character in Oda's earlier work.
