This is why I stick to the old OVA, which is still my favorite Appleseed anime. I wish they'd just stop trying to do Shirow and Otomo stuff in 3D. There's still too much that can go wrong...

Ghost In the Shell: Arise isn't too bad, far better than this.

I wish Shirow would come out of his self-imposed exile, guy isn't doing anything with his stuff anymore. He had said in past he was going revisit Appleseed, Ghost In Shell, and Dominion: Tank Police.

I won't mind if he did something new original, less pornographic once in a while.

When they first released XIII, I mentioned to a friend that Funi made it look much better than it actually was.

I still stand by that.

The original series that these are based off was mediocre but these compilations are just outright bad.

As a fan of Appleseed( Shirow's best work IMO) i am disappointed that it has yet to get a good adaption. Pretty much every version completely botches Duenan and she ends being not even half as badass as she was in the manga.

The movies especially sadden me, where as not only does the manga deal with the question of the differences between Bioroids and humans as well as Olympus itself being sort of a "Prison" as Deunan saw it, but things like Terrorism/religious fundamentalism and issues of Race were tackled as well.

Not to mention the fight scenes suck compared to the manga which is really puzzling seeing as how one is in motion and the other is not, but not a single OAV/Movie/tv series action scene managed to top the last fight scene in Vol 4, where Duenan takes on a bunch of combat cyborgs and terrorists on her own with a Knife in a basement while waiting for back up.

Why they haven't even attempted to recreate this scene is beyond me. Either way i hope that someday we get an Appleseed anime on the level of Ghost in the Shell:SAC.
